ImageChina managed to erase the memory of last summer's loss at the 2007 Universiade by winning the rematch with Thailand by a resounding 3-0 in the final of the World University Badminton Championships.

Both China and Thailand were without the big guns who represented them in Bangkok in August. Chen Hong and Boonsak Ponsana have either graduated or are busy with Thomas Cup preparations. That didn't hurt the action. The final started with a 3-game win by Sun Junjie / Sun Xiaoli over Patiphat Chalardchalaem / Kunchala Voravichitchaikul.

Next up was the men's singles. Du Pengyu had dropped one match in this tournament but he kept China's sheet clean in the final, saving two game points on the way to a 23-21, 21-17 win over Sittichai Viboonsin.

Wang Yihan (photo) managed to finish things off with a convincing 21-16, 21-13 win over Thailand's best, Salakjit Ponsana.

Both the mixed doubles and women's singles were contested between the top two seeds from the individual competition, which began today.
