Petya Nedelcheva managed to do what Petr Koukal did last week in the Czech Republic by winning her home Bulgarian International. In this case the Bulgarian number one walked away with double gold with victories in both the women’s singles and doubles. By Mark Phelan Photos: Badmintonphoto.com (archives) The world #13 wasted little time in winning the women’s singles title by comfortably seeing off the challenge of fellow Bulgarian Linda Zechiri after the Bulgarian #2 was forced to retire in the second set. "Unfortunately, today I couldn't go on. I was just too tired and I injured my hip joint. The resting time was just too short to recover after my matches in the semi finals. But I remain still very satisifed with my performance in this tournament" said Zechiri. Nedelcheva (photo) completed the double with new doubles partner Anastasia Russkikh with another easy win over veteran pairing Reid and Grether 21-11, 21-18. Denmark had a successful day with victories in the men’s singles and doubles. Rune Ulsing was a winner in three over Scottish newcomer Kieren Merrilles while Kasper Henriksen and Anders Kristiansen only took 20 minutes to beat top-seeded Russians Ivanov and Sozonov 21-11, 21-11. In an all-Polish mixed final, Mateusiak and Kostiuczyk, continued their comeback after a long injury layoff to Kostiuczyk, to prove that they are still the king and queen of Polish mixed doubles with another sub-30-minute final win over Cwalina and Kurdelska. After a close 21-18 first set win, the top Polish pair brushed aside the second set challenge of their compatriots with an easy 21-9 win to take the Bulgarian title. For all results click HERE
