While the very best were fighting for a crown in Paris, some of best European shuttlers were involved in a lower ranked tournament, in Hungary. Jeanine Cicognini, from Swizerland, kept her status of top seed and clinched the final victory over second seed Tatiana Bibik.
Photo: Lehel Seres for Badmintonphoto (live) It is the best result of 2009 for the Swiss, as she hadn't won a tournament this year yet, only reaching the final of the Czech Republic tournament. The results in the men's singles event were more surprising as the final featured two unseeded players, but it was finally Dieter Domke who beat Magnus Sahlberg from Sweden 21-14, 21-10. Bibik scooped two medals (one in women's doubles as well) while Poland's Szkudlarzcyk got two golds: in mixed and men's doubles.
