The third edition of the 2009 Korea International Challenge is moving to Hwasun, where the local organizers are billing it as a tribute event to the Olympic gold medal performance of the county's most famous son, Lee Yong Dae. After the inaugural event in Suwon in 2007, the tournament moved to Yeosu last year in Lee's home province before coming to rest in Hwasun, also the hometown of national team head coach Kim Joong Soo. As in 2008, Korea will be sending its top tier players, including Olympic silver medallists Lee Hyo Jung and Lee Kyung Won, who were both injured for last year's event. Thailand will once again be sending its top younsters, including newly crowned World Junior Champions Ratchanon Inthanon and mixed doubles pairing Maneepong Jongjit / Rodjana Chuthabunditkul. But the draw has been spiced up with some interesting scratch pairings of Europeans with local stalwarts as last year's silver medallist Kim Mi Young will be playing mixed with European Junior Mixed Doubles Champion Jacco Arends of the Netherlands and Russia's Stanislav Pukhov will play with Ko Hyun Jung. Perhaps the biggest darkhorse in mixed doubles could be the scratch pairing of former All England champions Jung Jae Sung and Lee Kyung Won.
